Famous author George Orwell passed away 65 years ago yesterday. FlavorWire has a nice tribute to him that highlights some of his best work. While most of us know him best from his classics, Animal Farm and 1984, he offered much more than that. An excellent short story writer and essayist, Orwell had a great influence on Western literature in the twentieth century, and it’s quite remarkable how prescient he was then and how relevant his work still is today. “Why I Write” and “Politics and the English Language” are essays I use in class most semesters, but give his other stuff a look, as well. Enjoy!
