As the end of the semester draws near, many students may be wondering if they can receive extra credit points, hoping to nudge them a little closer to that higher GPA or catapult them across the ominous line between passing and failing. For my many years of teaching, my policy has always been that I don’t allow extra credit. Waiting until the final week of class to suddenly begin caring about their grade doesn’t elicit much sympathy from me. I expect students to get it right the first time.
