Tomorrow is the beginning of National Novel Writing Month! It's time to let those ideas flow and get some words--50,000 of them--on the page. The goal for November is to craft a novel of that length in just 30 days, and it's a great opportunity to test your skills and, more importantly, learn how stick to a schedule for finishing a project.
The NaNoWriMo website offers great tips for getting started, finding support from fellow writers, and moving step-by-step through this enormous writing process. I know it may sound daunting, but there is no harm in trying it out. I have several awesome students who are taking on the challenge, and I can't wait to see what they will produce over the next month.
And even if you can't quite get to a novel-length product, do your best to do something creative this month. Whether it's a short story or two, a few poems, or something else, try getting some form of writing done during the month of November. Good luck!
