As a boy, one of my favorite films was The Karate Kid. (And we will all pretend that the reboot with Will Smith’s annoying son never existed). The story of an underdog new to town who takes on the school bully in a superawesome karate tournament with quintessentially ‘80s music montages was an inspiration to all of us. Sweep the leg! Finish him!
But did we have it all wrong? Is Daniel really the bully and Johnny the troubled hero? Is Mr. Miyagi a “child batterer”? That is the perspective of this hilarious video just released this week. It’s always fun to spin literary creations and deconstruct them toward entirely new meanings, and with already three million views in just two days, this one is nicely done. Regardless of whatever interpretation we are supposed to have, we can all agree that Ali Mills is our favorite character. Enjoy!
