The poet Robert Frost once said there were often times in which he found people's language more interesting than people themselves. When it comes to politicians, I could not agree more. I think they are all pretty much morons, but I'm endlessly fascinated by the way they speak and the messages they attempt to deliver.
As the political primary season keeps marching on, I thought I'd take two days this week to briefly examine some of our candidates' language techniques by way of their commercials. You can learn a lot about people in a 30-second clip, and being an English Champion means paying close attention to words and logic.
Today, we have Republican Ted Cruz. And on Friday, since an English Champion is always equally rigorous on both sides of debate, we will look at Democrat Bernie Sanders. See if you notice the same (or other) problems with language and messaging that arise in political commercials. Enjoy!
