The University of Chicago made news this week when its Dean of Students issued a letter to its incoming class. Breaking from the current overly-sensitive climate of academia, the administrator derided safe spaces and trigger warnings, attempting to prepare students for rigorous debate and freedom of expression. Well done, sir! This letter is the best thing to come out of Chicago since the '98 Bulls. The fact that this made news at all is perhaps the saddest aspect of this story--the Dean's statement has been viewed as controversial when it should be the norm in all of higher education.
