Or so says a great new blog/podcast I recently discovered. This is not to insult us, but rather You Are Not So Smart is an exploration of human psychology in which scientists discuss the mysteries of why we do the crazy things we do. This is how the website describes itself:
“The central theme of You Are Not So Smart is that you are unaware of how unaware you are. There is an old-and-still-growing body of research across several disciplines with findings that suggest you have little idea why you act or think the way you do. Despite this, you continue to create narratives to explain your own feelings, thoughts, and behaviors, and these narratives – no matter how inaccurate – become the story of your life.”
Some of the podcasts I’ve recently listened to have explored human belief systems, the Dunning-Kruger effect, the illusion of the self, unreliable memories, and more. The interviews are entertaining and informative in a Malcolm Gladwell/Freakonomics sort of way, and I think even if you are not actively involved in the study of personality and behavior, there is something of value here for everyone.
