What Sperling hopes to accomplish, however, is that this book release experiment will trigger a new way of engaging readers. By breaking the traditional book model, he hopes readers will be willing to follow the journey and offer feedback that can be shared in the online community, creating a genuine and up-to-the-minute collective reading experience.
Though the project has a gimmicky feel to it, I’m intrigued by this new technique, and I think it offers other authors an interesting way to reach a prospective audience. As a lover of books, I want to see as many people reading and writing as possible, so if this is a method that enables those activities, I’m all for it.
I look forward to seeing what other voices emerge to explore this new publishing format. Sperling’s book can be found here, if you want to follow along.
